Summary:  

The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for the development and commercialization of new products and technologies for the Inpro/Seal business.  This role will collaborate with Product Management as well as Sales, Manufacturing, Application Engineering and the Polymers Engineering team.      


Responsibilities: 

 Working within a cross-functional team, define new product opportunities and act as lead product development resource to define product specifications and develop and launch new products 

  • Working within a cross-functional team, participate and contribute to continuous improvement efforts, including design-for-manufacturing and design optimization activities. 
  • Research and remain up to date on new sealing technologies such as materials, seal types and configurations, applications, and manufacturing processes 
  • Design and perform product experiments in the laboratory and analyze results to dwvwloP and improve product designs 
  • Design and run computer simulations and design analysis (e.g., FEA, CFD) as required and/or act as project champion for outside technical consulting. 
  • Act as product expert and provide technical data for marketing collateral and product training 
  • Work with customers to determine product needs that can solve their problems 
  • Look for opportunities to grow the business, (e.g., new markets, products and applications.) 


Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, can read and interpret drawings, proficient at CAD 
  • Knowledge of sealing systems and sealing materials highly desired 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in product development, product engineering or application engineering 
  • Proven ability to develop new products and lead a product commercialization team 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. 

  

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Experience with a New Product Development Stage / Gate process and toolset including VOC, DOE, Six Sigma or similar 
  • Experience with using and interpreting results from analytical codes such as CFD and FEA including linear and nonlinear analysis 
  • Creativity and ability to connect ideas from various inputs and transform to workable solutions 
  • Strong problem solving and root cause identification skills 
  • Able to effectively lead and / or work within a cross-functional team  
  • Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal 
  • Excellent active listening skills and clear, concise and articulate communication skills 
  • Ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word 
  • Strong project management skills, experience with Microsoft Project preferred 
  • Experience working with industrial customers 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across business functions and geographically dispersed teams 
  • This position is located at the Inpro/Seal corporate office in Rock Island, IL
