This role is focused around developing and leveraging computational physics/mechanics tools to enable the next generation of hardware. An ideal candidate will be passionate about computational mathematics (PDEs, linear algebra, optimization, ML), high performance computing (HPC), computational mechanics (fluids and solids), PDE-constrained optimization, as well as leveraging the above for optimal hardware design.
Develop computational models of physical systems and perform analysis on systems' response.
Implement sensitivities and perform design optimization.
Maintain the compute infrastructure for running large scale simulations.
Support a variety of (HPC) software development.
Collaborate with the larger Facebook Reality Labs team and support efforts within the team.
Minimum Qualifications
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar.
Experience with high performance computing (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA).
Experience with numerical methods for PDEs (e.g. finite elements, finite volume).
Experience with numerical optimization.
Experience with (compressible) computational fluid dynamics.
Interpersonal skills: cross-group collaboration and cross-culture collaboration.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in the field of Computational Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar background.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PDEs constrained optimization, adjoint methods, model order reduction, and shape optimization.
Experience with CFD software (e.g. OpenFOAM).
Experience with numerical modeling of fluid structure interaction and moving boundary problems.
Experience with cloud computing resources and containerization (e.g. Docker).
Good programming practices (version control, testing, documenting).
Proven track record of achieving significant results and innovation as demonstrated by first-authored publications and patents.
