a.i. solutions is seeking a highly motivated Fluids Engineer to support the Launch Services Division located at Kennedy Space Center in support of the NASA Launch Services Program. The Fluids Engineer will perform fluids analysis and assessments to support NASA LSP’s missions, launch vehicle certification, and fleet insight. Position requires knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and experience including two phase (liquid/gas) modeling, experience in in predicting propellant (liquid) slosh behavior on orbit, and experience in correlating experimental results with CFD predictions. This role requires the ability to overcome challenges and deliver quality products. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace the a.i. solutions mission and work to continually exceed the expectations of our customers.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
Evaluate launch vehicle fluid system design, test and analyses for determination of vehicle flight acceptability and vehicle certification
Develop launch vehicle fluid simulations for use in transient flight regimes starting from terrestrial or airborne launch platforms to orbital destinations
Validate fluid analyses against test or flight data
Perform thermodynamic simulations of cryogenic fluid volumes to discern spatial and temporal variations in fluid conditions in terrestrial as well as micro-gravity conditions
Communicate technical material clearly and accurately to all levels of engineering and management
Provide on-console support to efficiently monitor launch vehicle thermal telemetry during launch operations and contribute to anomaly resolutions
Apply conceptual thinking to evaluate and approve engineering designs, test plans and procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
5+ years of relevant, launch vehicle life cycle experience with multiple launch vehicles
U.S. citizenship
Desired Background:
Master’s degree
Proficiency in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD, Starccm+, Matlab, Python and 1D Fluid Network Codes – GFSSP, Sinda/Fluint, CHCHVENT
Ability to quickly connect in person and in writing and to actively listen to and perceive the needs, values or opinions of others
Demonstrated leadership accomplishments professionally and personally
Proactivity in identifying and addressing challenges to include innovations that result in positive organizational impact
